How I Got Into Lolita Fashion (And You Can, Too!)

I couldn’t tell you the first time I officially saw or heard of Lolita fashion. I remember a friend of mine parading in Lolita clothing confidently in high school (though now that I think about it, it was very toned down.) I can also clearly recalll that it was just before 2010 that I spied copies of the English version of the Gothic and Lolita Bibles in a Waldenbooks while on a date with my then boyfriend. We sat down at a restaurant to eat, as it was our anniversary at the time, and I remember flipping page after page of this mook (magazine/book) and being completely in awe.

The glamour and beauty of this fashion is what drew me to it. The femininity, the outlandishness of it, and yet these fine ladies (and gentleman!) looked so polished and confident…and I wanted in.

About a year or so later I moved in with the then boyfriend and we planned to go to Otakon 2011. It was there in the Dealer’s Room that I spotted my first up close and personal Lolita. She was wearing a pink and blue mixed wig and Angelic Pretty’s Milky Planet in Sax. I remember staring, fixated in her lavishness. I decided then and there, that I wanted to become more serious with this fashion.

Over the course of the next year, I worked on sewing my very own Lolita jumperskirt. As with most newer Lolitas, my first coord was a complete disaster and quite laughable! I wore it to a friend’s “Fancy Party” (yes, that’s what it was called) and then after I went to a local high school concert. However, I didn’t feel the need to hide my face! I just researched more and became better over time.

And that’s exactly what Lolita takes: LOTS AND LOTS OF RESEARCH. If you would like to research a bit yourself, stick around and read a few posts! I will talk about the essential pieces of a typical Lolita wardrobe. Trust me, taking it in one big chunk will leave you mind-boggled, confused, and exhausted!

Stay Tuned!

Until Next Time,

Oh. My. Goodness. Can we just take a moment to bask in the awesomeness that is this new show?!?

I apologize, as I’m sure by now you’re used to the Lolita aesthetic on this blog, but I can’t help but gush at this nostalgia rush that is DAT.

I knew for the longest time that a “sequel” of sorts for the original Digimon series was going to make headway into Japanese theaters this November, however the thought had been put on the backburner of my mind. It wasn’t until  I was watching a YouTube video that happened to be sponsored by CrunchyRoll that I remembered it and immediately searched for it.

And am I ever glad.

I absolutely love that they remixed the old theme songs (Kouji Wada must have re-recorded this newer version of “Butter-fly” as it sounds more dream-like than its original counterpart) and the remix of “I Wish” by AiM is positively catchy!

I do plan on expanding more on my YouTube channel with a sort of series where I’ll talk about my favorite shows and things, but for now, I’m going back to gush over my childhood crush.

Joe ❤
